I recall many strange experiences, both as a small child and later as I grew up. I knew I didn´t quite fit in with the normal way of things.

A sensitive and rather shy child, I remember my general outlook as being somewhat a loner, happiest in the countryside (and often alone) in preference to group activity with my peers.

I remember one winter´s night in my bedroom, reading a Dan Dare comic story. They were chasing a mystery ship in pursuit of justice, when at the very edge of the known universe, the ship was stopped in its tracks, and a god-like voice said “Thus far, and you may go no further, in this life. you must turn back”. Dan Dare and I were shocked. I suddenly had an overwhelming emotional response to this situation and ran down from my badly lit room to the normal hubbub going on with the rest of the family downstairs.

I relate this because I think it is the moment when I became a searcher for the truth of who we are and what we are really doing here.

But within a short time I discovered again the wonderful relaxing and energising effect that consistent meditation brought.

More importantly I discovered that my analytical self was more or less thwarted and discarded. It had brought me no truths over many years, yet here for the first time, a great oceanic sense of a higher reality that did not surrender itself wholly to objectivity, was opening up a wonderful vista. It was more real than mere objectivity, which is no more than a measuring system, it may build a house, but who will live in it? I felt at home and at peace, for the first time in my life, I belonged.

I began meditating with real intensity at this time and it brought real peace and many wonderful personal experiences. While Catherine and I were living in Spain, Paddy McMahon and Maura Lundberg phoned us and strongly urged us to book ourselves into an intensive mediumship course in the Arthur Findlay College London.

I was rather curious as to why we should both be doing this course, feeling that I had no such ambitions or inclinations toward mediumship.

When we arrived I was of the opinion that maybe I should attend meditations and lectures but abstain from the classes, especially as Catherine and I had been separated into two different classes.

Well, with Catherine´s encouragement and not being an easy quitter, I decided to attend my first class. The teacher was a very spiritual Welsh Lady, who turned out to be a very wise and knowledgeable Medium, as well as a kind and gifted teacher, and thankfully for me, she had plenty of patience.

I was in for a shock when I realized that we had an extra pupil in our class, so when pairing off began, I was left with the teacher as my partner. What a blessing that was.

This was my introduction to mediumship, hard to believe I know, but from that very first day I was seeing, hearing and understanding spirit for the first time in my life and able to relay messages, even telling my partner who they were and how they passed. I saw what I can only describe as a kind of mini-movie or active photograph at a specific place in my head.

These picture-films moved very quickly and had far more information than at first glance. I would start to relate the information to my sitter, then all of a sudden I realised there was more, much more. This information was visual as well as audio and amazingly I was caught up in feelings and emotions. I realised I was in a dialogue with the sitters loved one/s. my part was purely the bridge for the communication. I did not and still don´t understand many of the things being communicated. So even the most personal of messages may be directed without my involvement or my interpretation.

But the overwhelming desire of spirit is to tell their loved ones on earth of their life in spirit. Most often they speak of being more alive not less than the earthly existence they remember. They are invariably happy and have the sense of improved faculties etc.

Above all they seek to demonstrate that there is life after life to the ones they love, to right wrongs if they can, to make amends and in countless ways to assist and support their earthly connections. They do not intervene. They seem to be responsive to a strict code of free will which must not be breached.

Time has moved on since then and now my mediumship grows ever stronger with continued work. It is a very great honour to perform this service. It is all I want to do in this life.

Now living here in Gorey, Co Wexford, I have never been happier or more at peace in my whole life, I know I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I was born to do, and more profoundly magical, to be with the love of my life Catherine, by my side.

What is a Spiritual Medium?

A Spiritual Medium is a person who makes themselves available to the Spirit world so that members of the Spirit world can communicate with people who are still 'alive'. A medium is just an ordinary person who has the ability to use more than his / her five senses. He /she does not have the ability to "call up" or "disturb" the so called dead, because it is not the medium who chooses who he / she would like to communicate with. This is the choice of those in the Spirit world. However, through personal development, the medium learns to differentiate between Spirits that are not so desirable (those who give false information or cause trouble) and those that come in love and sincerity.

How do the Spirit World know who is a Medium? Our auras are visible to the spirit world; spirits are not somewhere else, but around us always. The reason most people cannot see those in spirit is because we are on different vibrations, ie. Higher and lower vibrations, we being in a dense, lower vibration and spirit in a higher, lighter vibration. The spirit world can see our auras. Within a mediums aura there are constantly sparkling, flashing lights. These lights allow the spirit world to know exactly who can see and communicate with them. Also Mediums are given sparkling, flashing white or blue lights by the spirit world to show the medium that a spirit is present. What is the purpose of Mediumship?
